Have you been washing your hair wrong?

Always start by rinsing

Rinsing your hair before applying shampoo is a must-do. Rinsing with warm water will help to open up your hair cuticles, allowing for a deeper clean and the removal of any excess product that might be trapped in your hair. Opening up your hair’s cuticles will also allow your conditioner to be better absorbed, so make sure you’re not rinsing with cold water.

Long haired ladies should condition first

We’re not going crazy, this is actually beneficial to anyone who has hair that falls beneath the shoulders! Longer hair tends to be more susceptible to damage, so running a small amount of conditioner to the lengths of your hair before shampooing will give your locks some extra-added moisture before you hit the other products.

Keep the lather up at the scalp

There is no need to apply shampoo to the lengths of your hair, it’s just the scalp that needs the shampoo VIP treatment. It’s especially important to lather up at the very roots of your hair as this is where it will be the greasiest. Allow the tips of your hair altogether as this is where your locks will be at their driest.

Condition from the lengths downwards

Just as you don’t need to apply shampoo past your scalp, it’s also unnecessary to condition above the lengths of your locks. Make sure you’ve squeezed any excess water out of your hair before applying conditioner and leave it on for as long as possible. The longer you leave your conditioner on, the more time it has to work its magic!

Finish off with a cold rinse

Just as with the pores on your skin, the cuticles of your hair open up in warm water and close again in cold water. Rinsing with cold water will help to shut your cuticles, while sealing in all the goodness from your wash.
